The Capacity Intensive™ — Burnout Recovery Intensive | Raleigh, NC & the Research Triangle | Virtual for NC & CT | Erica M. Cuni, LMFT
Get to the root— and actually change.
You've tried everything. You can't spend another year on this.
You’ve probably already tried therapy. Maybe it helped for a while. But fifty minutes a week — starting just as things get real, stopping before you’ve gone anywhere — isn’t enough time to reach what’s actually driving this. It was never going to be.
A burnout recovery intensive in Raleigh, NC with Erica M. Cuni, LMFT is built differently. Dedicated days. No clock-watching. No showing up already depleted from a full workday. No context-switching back into your life before anything has had time to land.
Just uninterrupted time — and a clear roadmap for what comes next.
Currently accepting a limited number of new clients.
Weekly therapy wasn't built for this.
Here's the honest truth about the format problem nobody talks about.
In a standard weekly session, most clients start watching the clock at the 30-minute mark. Or they’re in the middle of their workday thinking about everything still on their plate. Or they arrive already depleted — and we spend the first twenty minutes just getting them present enough to work.
That’s not a client problem. That’s a format problem.
For high-performing adults across the Research Triangle — researchers, healthcare professionals, executives, and entrepreneurs in Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, and Cary — the format problem isn’t theoretical. It’s Tuesday at 4pm when you’re already running on empty.
A burnout recovery intensive removes all of it. A dedicated block of time — tailored entirely to your nervous system’s pace — with no clock-watching, no context-switching, and no showing up already empty. The work goes where it needs to go. Nothing gets cut off before it lands.
The research supports it.
Across multiple peer-reviewed studies, intensive therapy formats produce faster symptom reduction, larger treatment gains, and lower dropout rates than standard weekly sessions — particularly for high functioning burnout, chronic stress, and trauma-informed presentations. A 2026 study out of Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam found that intensive formats produce faster recovery and lower likelihood of relapse.
When the pattern has been running for years — decades in some cases — it needs more than fifty minutes a week to shift. That’s not a judgment. That’s a format reality.
Not another burnout solution. A map.
What the Burnout Recovery Intensive Is — And How It's Different
Most burnout approaches target the symptoms — the exhaustion, the anxiety, the chronic stress — without ever identifying what’s driving them underneath. You get temporary relief. Then you’re back where you started. That’s not a treatment failure. That’s a targeting problem.
The Capacity Intensive™ goes underneath.
It’s built around the Overfunctioning Nervous System™ (OFNS) Framework — a clinical model that maps exactly how burnout develops in high-functioning adults and what it actually takes to address it at the level it lives. Not generic burnout education. Your specific system. Your specific patterns. Your specific roadmap for what comes next.
For high-performing adults in Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, Cary, and across the Research Triangle — and for clients joining virtually from anywhere in North Carolina and Connecticut — this is burnout recovery built around your nervous system, not a protocol built around someone else’s.
Here’s what that means in practice.
Before your first day we complete a structured intake process that maps your overfunctioning patterns, your current capacity level, and where your system is being drained most. You walk in ready to work — not figuring it out as we go. By the time your intensive ends you don’t just feel better. You understand exactly what’s been happening — and you have a clear, specific plan for what to do about it.
That’s the difference between managing burnout and actually changing it.
Wherever you are in the journey — there's a place for you here.
The Capacity Intensive™ was designed for high-performing adults across the Research Triangle and beyond — researchers, healthcare professionals, executives, entrepreneurs, and parents who are exhausted, still functioning, and ready to understand what’s actually driving the pattern. You don’t need to have worked with me before. You don’t need to have it all figured out before you call.
You have your own therapist and want deeper burnout recovery.
Your weekly therapy is valuable — but the burnout, anxiety, or chronic stress isn’t shifting at the level it needs to. You want a concentrated burnout intensive that goes beyond what regular sessions can reach. We do the intensive. Afterward — with your permission — I coordinate with your therapist directly or provide a written summary you bring back to them. You return to your existing provider with new insight and a clear roadmap for recovery. Your work doesn’t have to exist in a bubble.
You’re ready to start burnout recovery and want to begin here.
No current therapist. You want a precise map of your burnout pattern, your current capacity level, and a clear direction forward — before deciding what ongoing support looks like. Some clients take the roadmap and apply it independently. Others use the intensive as the foundation for ongoing burnout therapy with me. Either way — you leave with something concrete.
You want a one-time intensive with no ongoing commitment.
You’re not looking for ongoing therapy. You want a specific, focused experience — your burnout pattern mapped, your overfunctioning identified, your next step clarified. You take the roadmap and go. There’s no pressure and no expectation of what comes next. If you feel you’d benefit from another intensive down the road, that conversation is always available.
Wherever you’re starting from — the first step is the same. A free 20-minute discovery call to figure out if this is the right fit for your system right now.
It rarely shows up as just one thing
The Capacity Intensive™ — a burnout recovery therapy intensive addresses:
- High functioning burnout
- Anxiety
- Chronic stress
- Perfectionism
- People pleasing
- Overwhelm
- High functioning depression
- Relationship issues
- Self esteem
- Hypervigilance — why you can’t relax
These don’t get treated as separate problems. They get understood as connected — coming from the same place, addressed at the same level. That’s the difference between managing symptoms and understanding the system.
This was built for where you are right now
Is a Burnout Recovery Intensive Right for You?
You don’t have to be at rock bottom to be ready for this. You just have to be done with the version of managing that’s been passing for okay.
This may be the right next step if any of this sounds familiar:
- You're still functioning— and on the outside you look like you have it all together, but on the inside it feels like something could fall apart at any minute
- You've tried therapy, self-help, or wellness strategies for burnout, anxiety, or chronic stress — and the relief was real but short-lived.
- You're gaining insight into your patterns. You just can't figure out why the insight isn't actually changing anything.
- Weekly sessions feel like one more demand on an already impossible schedule — and you need something more concentrated and efficient with your time.
- You're carrying a level of responsibility that makes ongoing weekly commitments difficult to sustain.
- You're ready to actually understand what's driving this — not just manage it better.
If you recognize yourself here — welcome. I’m glad you’re here.
A note on who this isn’t for.
If you are currently in active crisis — including suicidal or homicidal ideation — or in active substance use, or need a higher level of care such as IOP, detox, or inpatient hospitalization, this is not the right fit right now. Your safety comes first. Please reach out to a crisis resource or your nearest emergency services.
For everyone else
Fit still matters, and that’s exactly what the discovery call is for. No pressure. No commitment. Just an honest conversation about whether this is the right next step for where you are right now.
The Capacity Intensive™ is available in person in Raleigh, NC and select coastal North Carolina locations — and virtually for clients across North Carolina and in Hartford County and Fairfield County, Connecticut.
Here's exactly what to expect
Every Capacity Intensive™ follows the same process — start to finish. No surprises. No figuring it out as you go. Here’s exactly what happens from your first conversation to your last session.
Step 1 — Free 20-minute discovery call. This is where we figure out if this is the right fit. We talk about where you are, what you’ve already tried, and what you’re looking for. If it’s a fit, we talk about which tier makes the most sense for your system right now. If it isn’t, I’ll tell you that directly — and point you toward something that actually fits. No pressure. No commitment.
Step 2 — Consents and intake paperwork. Before we meet for the first time, you’ll complete your consent forms and intake paperwork. This gives me the clinical context I need to make your prep session and your intensive days as focused and effective as possible.
Step 3 — 90-minute prep and intake session. This is where we go deeper. We review your intake, map your specific overfunctioning patterns, identify your current capacity level, and figure out exactly how we’re going to use your intensive days. You walk in to your first intensive day ready to work — not orienting, not catching up, not figuring it out as we go.
Step 4 — Your intensive days. Up to four hours of uninterrupted clinical work per day — tailored entirely to your nervous system’s pace. No clock-watching. No context-switching. No showing up already depleted from a full workday. Just dedicated time with your specific system and what’s actually driving the pattern underneath.
Step 5 — 90-minute debrief and integration session. We decompress. We talk through what came up, what shifted, and what you’re taking away. You leave with a written roadmap — your specific burnout pattern, your capacity level, and a clear direction for what comes next. This is also where we figure out your next step together if you want ongoing support.
Step 6 — Forward path consultation (optional). If you want to talk through what ongoing support looks like — whether that’s continuing with me, returning to your existing therapist with your roadmap, or applying what you’ve learned independently — we have that conversation during our 90 minute debrief session. You’ll get clarity about what makes sense for your system going forward.
Available in person in Raleigh, NC and select coastal North Carolina locations. Travel to the client’s location is also available — travel and accommodation expenses are the client’s responsibility in both directions. Virtual sessions available for clients across North Carolina and in Hartford County and Fairfield County, Connecticut.
Real talk about what this is and isn't.
You’re considering a significant investment — of time, money, and energy. You deserve to know exactly what you’re walking into.
This work is:
- Directive when clarity is what's needed — I name what I see in real time
- Supportive when the work calls for it — this is not a sterile, detached clinical experience
- Skills-based — you leave with practical tools for the moment, not just insight about why it's hard
- Built for lasting change — not temporary relief that wears off
- Depth-oriented and built around your nervous system — not a generic burnout curriculum
This work is not:
- Active crisis work— including suicidal or homicidal ideation
- Active substance use work
- Higher level of care — including IOP, detox, or inpatient hospitalization
- Stabilization before intensive outpatient work is appropriate
If you’re unsure whether this is the right level of care for where you are right now — that’s exactly what the discovery call is for. We figure that out together before anything else. Your safety and your fit both matter.

Frequently Asked Questions About Burnout Recovery Intensive Therapy
What is a Burnout Recovery Intensive?
A burnout recovery intensive is a concentrated, immersive experience designed to give you a precise picture of what is actually driving your burnout, chronic stress, or anxiety — and a clear roadmap for what to do about it. The Capacity Intensive™ is Erica M. Cuni, LMFT’s proprietary burnout recovery intensive — available in 1, 2, or 3-day formats, built around your nervous system. Not generic burnout education. Available in person in Raleigh, NC and select coastal North Carolina locations, and virtually for clients in NC and CT.
Who is the burnout therapy intensive for?
Three types of clients:
- People who have a therapist and want deeper burnout recovery
- People new to burnout therapy who want a concentrated starting point
- People who want a one-time burnout intensive with no ongoing commitment.
None need to have worked with Erica before.
How is a burnout intensive different from weekly therapy?
Weekly therapy is built around 50 minutes at a time — which means a significant portion goes toward catching up, re-entering the work, and wrapping up before you’ve gone deep enough. A burnout intensive removes all of that. A definitive amount of time, tailored to your nervous system’s pace, and completely uninterrupted. No clock-watching. No context switching. No showing up already depleted from a full workday.
Can I do a burnout intensive if I already have a therapist?
Yes — and this is one of the most common reasons people come to The Capacity Intensive™. Your existing therapy continues as normal. With your permission, Erica can coordinate directly with your therapist after the intensive, or provide a written summary for you to bring back to them. The burnout intensive complements your existing support — it doesn’t replace it.
What Happens Before My Burnout Intensive Begins?
Three things happen before your first intensive day — and all three are designed to make sure you walk in ready to work, not figuring things out as you go. First, a complimentary 20-minute discovery call to assess fit and determine which tier is right for you. Second, a 90-minute prep session where we review your assessment results, map your burnout profile, and build a plan for your intensive days. By the time day one starts, you already know exactly what we’re working on.
Do I need to have worked with Erica before doing a burnout intensive?
No. The discovery call and the 90 minute prep session give us everything we need to hit the ground running — regardless of whether we’ve worked together before.
What happens after the burnout intensive ends?
A 90-minute post-intensive session to decompress, process what emerged, and identify your forward path — whether that’s applying the burnout recovery roadmap independently, returning to your existing therapist with new insight, moving into ongoing burnout therapy with Erica, or revisiting the possibility of another intensive down the road.
Can I travel to Raleigh for an in-person intensive?
Absolutely — and I love when clients treat this as their personal retreat. You’re welcome regardless of where you legally reside. You just need to be in NC at the time of the intensive. Erica is happy to share recommendations for hotels, airbnb’s, restaurants, and self-care activities to make the most of your time here.
Is the burnout intensive available virtually?
Yes! Virtual burnout intensives are available for clients physically located in North Carolina and Connecticut at the time of the appointment.
How much does the burnout intensive cost?
1-day: $1,800 · 2-day: $3,400 · 3-day: $5,100 · Full fee information available on the Fees & Insurance page.
Can I use my insurance for the burnout intensive?
Unfortunately, insurance companies do not recognize intensives as a covered service. As a result, they are private-pay only.
How Do I Know Which Burnout Intensive Is Right for Me?
The discovery call answers that question. We figure it out together based on where your nervous system is right now, what you’re ready for, and what will give you the best return on your investment in burnout recovery. There’s no pressure to choose a tier before we talk — that’s exactly what the call is for.
Erica M. Cuni, LMFT — Burnout Therapist & Creator of the OFNS™ Framework
With nearly two decades of clinical experience across every level of care — from the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Department of Corrections to private practice — Erica M. Cuni, LMFT has spent her career sitting across from high-performing adults who looked fine on paper and were falling apart on the inside.
Along the way..
She has served twice as clinical director and spent several years as an adjunct professor training the next generation of therapists. Her advanced training includes trauma-informed care, Internal Family Systems (IFS), somatic experiencing, and polyvagal-informed practice.
But what makes this work different isn’t just the training.
It’s that she’s lived this twice. The Overfunctioning Nervous System™ (OFNS) Framework wasn’t built from a textbook — it was built from the inside out. From her own burnout recoveries, her clinical work, and nearly two decades of understanding exactly what it costs to keep going when your system is telling you to stop.
That’s why the burnout recovery intensive exists. And that’s why it lands differently.
Her work has been featured in
Refinery29, Well + Good, NBC News and Aveeda Means Business. She was named one of the 22 Leaders to Learn From by Bunch in 2022. As a keynote speaker she has delivered to audiences from 10 to 1,500+ across organizations, conferences, and leadership teams nationally.
